Recently, Sheng Xiang, a researcher from Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to give an academic exchange report to the college, which was presided over by Xu Jing, dean of the college.
Prof. Sheng Xiang made an academic report entitled "Application of Computational Simulation Based on Physical Principles in Synthetic Biology Research", using quantum chemistry and other computational chemistry methods to systematically study the substrate recognition mechanism, reaction mechanism and selective regulation mechanism of a variety of biological enzymes with industrial application potential, and proposed a rational transformation strategy driven by reaction mechanism based on the results of computational simulation, and obtained mutants with ideal catalytic activity through experimental verification. It is demonstrated that computational chemistry methods can be used as a powerful tool for enzyme catalytic function elucidation and biocatalyst design in the field of synthetic biology.
The report also attracted teachers and graduate students in related research fields from other colleges of the university to participate, and researcher Sheng Xiang had in-depth exchanges with the participating teachers and graduate students. In the next step, the school will continue to promote the cross-integration of chemistry with agriculture, forestry, life, environment, food and other disciplines, and help our university to build a "double first-class".
